About
The Aluna collection explores the deep connection between artist Lanu’s Indigenous roots and the raw beauty of the natural world. The collection's name honours Aluna, the goddess of nature revered by the Kogi tribe of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, Colombia. Meticulously hand-built using traditional coiling techniques, each vessel takes the form of tropical flowers and stones. Intricately detailed, highly symbolic insects emerge from the stoneware and terracotta clay rendered using a distinct half-carved, half-relief technique that brings each creature to life. This is a limited collection of strictly one-of-a-kind, one-off sculptures; no copies are ever made.Lanu is a visual artist and educator working primarily with sculpture and drawing. She currently works at a Ceramic studio in South London. Trained in Fine Arts in London at UCL, Slade school of Fine Art, and Falmouth University. Lanu’s practice is grounded in raw physicality and a symbolic visual language. Drawing on the symbolism of tropical flowers, stones, plants and insects and a profound connection to the natural world.
Born in London, she currently lives and works between London and Sicily.
